RATINGS

95+ The Wine Advocate

...bold cassis fruit and hints of dark chocolate underscored by enlivening notes of mint. It's medium to full-bodied and a bit rounder on the palate but still harmonious and long on the finish, framed by silky tannins.

95Wine Spectator

A sleek, refined Cabernet, with a beautifully focused set of violet, black cherry puree and warmed cassis notes flecked with light anise and apple wood through the finish. Shows a subtle mineral underpinning throughout, too. Lovely.

95Vinous / IWC

...such a gorgeous wine... Silky tannins wrap around a core of crushed raspberry, rose petal, cinnamon and mocha.

95Wine Enthusiast

Gamy, meaty and even flirting with garrigue, this is an earthy, sublime and highly structured wine, additionally tangy and dusty in tobacco and dried herb. Notes of black olive, red currant and cassis combine around silky tannins and lovely oak.

93Jeb Dunnuck

...lots of ripe currant and plum-like fruits supported by chocolate, violets, and leafy herbs...rich, medium to full-bodied...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
