Kopke was started in 1638 by Christiano Kopke, who moved to Portugal from Germany to found a wine export company. The company was bought and sold several times in the following centuries and in 1953 it was acquired by the Barros family, who have been in the wine export business for many generations. Today the estate is part of the Sogevinus Fine Wines Group, which promotes and sells wines and Ports from Douro. Kopke makes a portfolio of Ports.
