RATINGS

93The Wine Advocate

...showing very well, mingling aromas of black cherries and cassis with subtle hints of grilled meats and exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and nicely concentrated, with lively acids and powdery structuring tannins.

93Wine Spectator

This shows lots of finesse, with raspberry tart and ripe cherry notes infused with violet, mocha and anise accents. Plush, inviting tannins give support, with integrated acidity keeping it focused.

92Vinous / IWC

Expansive red and blue fruit, violet, exotic spice and mineral qualities on the smoky nose. Appealingly sweet black raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors deepen and take on a spicy aspect as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity and solid thrust on an impressively long, subtly chewy finish that features sneaky tannins and lingering blue fruit character.

REGION

France, Beaujolais, Morgon, Cote du Py

Cote du Py is a famous vineyard on the slopes of Morgon’s central Mount du Py. The soil is a hard black schist, meaning coarse-grained metamorphic rock made of layers of different minerals. Of the 10 crus of Beaujolais, Moulin-a-Vent and Morgon are considered to have the finest terroirs.

TYPE

Red Wine, Gamay, Cru Beaujolais

The Gamay grape produces a light, versatile and food-friendly wine. It is best known for making Beaujolais Nouveau, but it is also grown in Loire and Tours. Thankfully the 14th C. Duke of Burgundy’s degree to ban the grape did not spread through all of France.
