RATINGS

95The Wine Advocate

Touches of fresh dewy green apple, kiwi fruit and lime emerge with aeration. The palate is fresh and lively on the entry with subtle apricot and peachy notes. It has crisp acidity, and is lively and focused on the sharp, tense finish.

93+ Vinous / IWC

...freshly cut flowers, spices and crushed rocks. Crystalline purity is the essence of the Perrières, while the fruit lies a bit on the background. All of the elements meld together beautifully on the textured, inviting finish.

PRODUCER

Pierre Morey

Domaine Pierre Morey has an illustrious history in Burgundy. Pierre Morey himself descends from a family that has been making wine in Meursault since the 18th century. Pierre worked alongside his father and established his own domaine in 1971. He was also responsible for the metayage, or sharecropping agreement, his father had set up with Comtes Lafon and was the cellar master for Domaine Leflaive. Domaine Pierre Morey has 27 acres including a Grand Cru parcel in Batard-Montrachet. Its Premier Crus are in Meursault, Pommard and Volnay. Morey also started a small negociant called Morey-Blanc.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Meursault, Les Perrieres

Les Perrieres is 34-acre Premier Cru vineyard in Meursault, in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. The vineyard includes several sub parcels. They are the 2.4-acre monopole Clos des Perrieres, which belongs to Domaine Albert Grivault, and Les Perrieres Dessous. Because Les Perrieres is in southern Meursault next to Puligny, the Les Perrieres Meursaults are considered to have more minerality than other Meursaults. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that “Perrieres is perhaps the most elegant and persistent of the premier crus. At its best, it is positively brilliant…” Since Meursault lacks a Grand Cru, Meursault’s reputation for excellence is based on the Premier Crus, particularly the whites.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, 1er (Premier) Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
