RATINGS

94The Wine Advocate

...nose of classic blackcurrants and cigar box with nuances of tilled earth, pencil lead and tobacco leaf. The seductive, full-bodied palate delivers bags of wonderfully pure, crunchy black and blue fruits with firm, fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and lifted. Nice!

94+ Jeb Dunnuck

...showed nicely, with a rich, full-bodied style displaying the vibrant, fresher edge of the vintage. Lots of blue and black fruits, scorched earth, licorice, tobacco, and violet notes give way to a beautifully balanced, vibrant, lively red with outstanding purity, a touch of chalky minerality, and a great finish.

92Vinous / IWC

Floral accents add brightness to a core of ripe red berry fruit...dollop of Merlot softens the contours nicely.

91James Suckling

Aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, blackcurrants, dried thyme, vanilla and baking spices. Full-bodied with firm, dense tannins. Rich, ripe and fruity with a creamy texture.

PRODUCER

Addax

Addax is a Napa Valley boutique winemaking project from celebrity winemaker Russell Bevan and business partners Brian Kearny and Josh Peeples. The trio produced a few barrels for friends in 2009 and today make a collection of wines sourcing premium grapes from throughout the area. Recent releases include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a Napa Valley red blend.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
