RATINGS

92-94Stephen Tanzer

Slightly exotic, perfumed scents of black raspberry, coffee and aromatic herbs. Wonderfully silky, dense and concentrated, conveying excellent lift to its very intense crushed raspberry and floral flavors. Offers an uncanny combination of thickness and penetration for the vintage. Finishes firmly tannic and very long, with compelling perfume.

91-93The Wine Advocate

...aromatics lovely crushed violet and rose petal scents that intermix with the red fruit...palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, quite minerally in the mouth with an energetic finish that offers a pleasant frisson.

17Jancis Robinson

Nice, light, chalky note on the nose. Super-fragrant with fresh fruits and light note of fresh herbs. Stemmy but not at all green. So aromatic – almost a touch of lavender. Fine dry texture.

PRODUCER

Marchand-Tawse

Marchand-Tawse is a micro-negociant founded in 2011 by a pair of Canadians with long-time ties to Burgundy and fine winemaking. Quebec native Pascal Marchand moved to Burgundy in 1983 to make wine for estates including Comte Armand’s Clos des Epeneaux and Domaine de la Vougeraie. Fellow Canadian Moray Tawse is a banker and financier who founded a winery in Niagara before also going into business with Pascal Marchand in Burgundy. Together they have acquired village, premier cru and grand cru parcels, and in 2012 purchased the famous Gevrey-Chambertin estate Domaine Maume. The estate makes 8,000 to 10,000 cases a year.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanee, Les Suchots

Les Suchots is a 33-acre Premier Cru in Vosne-Romanee, in Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits. The vineyard is at the same elevation as Romanee-Saint-Vivant. Its neighbors are Romanee-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg on the south and Les Echezeaux to the north.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
