RATINGS

97+ The Wine Advocate

...exuberant notes of redcurrant jelly, cassis and boysenberries, plus hints of cardamom, bouquet garni, red roses and lavender. Full-bodied, the palate is laden with vibrant black fruits accented by red fruit sparks, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and perfumed.

97Jeb Dunnuck

This medium to full-bodied, round, incredibly sexy beauty offers loads of red and blue fruits, some spice, graphite, loamy earth, and tobacco nuances, supple tannins, plenty of mid-palate flesh, and a great finish.

96James Suckling

Quite a dark nose, with lots of cassis, incense, dark chocolate, meatiness and smoke. Concentrated and tight on the palate, packed with juicy fruit and dusty tannins. Impressively high-quality tannins, delivered in big quantity. Extremely well-judged balance between ripeness and freshness. Lingering finish.

93Vinous / IWC

...packed with inky dark red fruit, chocolate, scorched earth and herbs. Big, grippy tannins add to the wine's overall energy.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Pope Valley

Pope Valley is not an official AVA, though if the vintners who grow grapes and make wine there have their way, it will someday gain AVA status. The area is 25 miles east of the Silverado Trail above Rutherford and St. Helena, near Lake Berryessa, and proposals by local vintners would include about 108 square miles of land. Elevation here ranges from 500 to 1,400 feet and temperatures are more extreme that Napa Valley appellations closer to water.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
