RATINGS

95-98Stephen Tanzer

Penetrating minerals, crushed stone and white flowers on the nose, along with a sexy note of reduction. Wonderfully silky and palate-saturating, with near-perfect balance and superb inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of lime, minerals...

94The Wine Advocate

...offers up a generous bouquet of ripe citrus fruit, confit lemon, pears, warm bread, honeycomb and mandarin. On the palate, it's full-bodied, lavish and enveloping, with a textural attack, a rich and ample core of fruit and a long, expansive finish.

94Wine Spectator

Broad and muscular, this white evokes nut oil, smoke, butterscotch, peach, melon and spice flavors. Still a bit raw and unformed, with a long expansive finish. Turns creamier and silkier with aeration.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is one of the four justly famous Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy. The 18-acre vineyard is located up the slope from Le Montrachet and shares Le Montrachet’s excellent southern exposure, though Chevalier-Montrachet’s soil is considerably thinner and more rocky. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that Chevalier-Montrachet is “full, firm” and has “a great deal of depth and elegance.” The largest landholders are Bouchard Pere et Fils, 7.5 acres; Leflaive, 4 acres; and Louis Jadot, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
