Cuvee du Vatican is a 40-acre estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, in the Rhone Valley. It is owned and operated by the Diffonty family, which traces its history in Rhone Valley winemaking to the 17th century. Jean-Marc Diffonty now runs the estate. Red and white wines are produced, and the red is a traditional blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre and 3% Cinsault. The white is a blend of Clairette, Roussane, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. Nearly 6,000 cases of red are produced annually. Robert M. Parker has written that the estate’s wines “are full-bodied, rich and oozing with an unmistakable Provencal character…”
