RATINGS

93-95Vinous / IWC

Dark red cherries, smoke, licorice, tobacco, incense and orange peel jump from the glass in an intense, full-bodied wine loaded with personality. The balance of fruit and structure here is simply magnificent

93Burghound.com

The classy and very cool middle weight flavors possess phenolically mature and already well-integrated tannins as well as an ultra-refined mouth feel on the deep, balanced and gorgeously long finish.

91The Wine Advocate

A very attractive nose with pastille-like blackcurrant and dark plum fruit, fine mineralité and tension, the oak very nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with tannins that lightly grip, a little saline in the mouth

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits-Villages, Nuits-St.-Georges, Les Cailles

Les Cailles is 17.8-acre Premier Cru vineyard in Nuits-Saints-Georges, in Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits. It is in the southern part of of the appellation. Because there are no Grand Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saints-Georges, the appellation’s considerable reputation rests on its excellent Premier Crus. The vineyard is 245 – 260 meters in elevation with an excellent stony, sandy soil that drains well. Coates calls Les Cailles “subtle…with very seductive, composed, soft fruit flavors.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
