RATINGS

90-92Vinous / IWC

A wine of energy and tension...laced with sage, tobacco, anise and menthol. I very much like the sense of mineral-driven focus here. At the same time, there is plenty of vintage 2012 depth and richness in the fruit...

16.5Jancis Robinson

...fruit smells riper and more intense...there is also a delicate floral touch lifting it out of the glass. Sweet cherry and really fine tannins, just present enough for the moderate weight of the fruit. Refined, finishing dry and fresh.

PRODUCER

Domaine des Croix

Domaine des Croix is partly owned and entirely operated by winemaker David Croix, also known for his winemaking tenure at Camille Giroud. David founded Domaine des Croix about a decade ago with investors. His first releases were 2005 Corton-Charlemagne, Bourgogne Rouge, Beaune and Beaune Premiers Crus. The domaine has been farmed organically since 2008. Wine Advocate has called David Croix “a talented winemaker who has carved a niche out for himself.” Vinous has noted that Croix makes wines in a “forward, fruit-driven style.”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Beaune, Les Greves

Les Greves is a 75-acre Premier Cru vineyard in the central part of the Beaune appellation, in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune. Though Beaune has no Grand Cru vineyards, it has 44 vineyards that are either partly or completely Premier Cru. Clive Coates has written that in the central section of the Beaune appellation is “where you will find the finest examples of premier cru in Beaune.”

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, 1er (Premier) Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
